Better than paying diagnostic fees and then labor costs just to reset the light. I spilled a smoothie in my 2007 Mini Cooper and needed to take the seat out to clean the spill thoroughly. Of course, I read online afterwards that we are technically supposed to disconnect the battery first because there are sensors that will think that disconnecting the wiring harness under the seat for the seat belt and airbag sensor will cause a fault in the system (like the wiring shorted out or got a break in it accidentally and it needs attention). In any case, just received this code scanner yesterday and hooked it up to reset my warning light. Plugged it into the OBDII port and selected my vehicle in the configuration. Then I turned the car on so the scanner could communicate with the ECU. There are quite a few things to scroll through so it took me a while to find the restraint system option, but once I found it, it was as easy as 1-2-3 to erase the fault. Once done, I unplugged my scanner and started the vehicle up and voila..no more warning indicator on. This little gem has already paid itself off because I know the dealer would have charged probably double the cost of what this scanner costs here on Amazon. Although it might be difficult to find the right thing to diagnose from the menus, I still give it a 5 star rating because 1) it works and does what it is supposed to do and 2) just like anything else, time and more use with the device will make you become an expert at using it. Great tool for the home mechanic, but like another review said, if you are looking for actual BMW codes, this will not give that to you..I'm no BMW expert or BMW mechanic so I don't need the true fault code. =)

I have used this extensively in my 2002 525it sportswagon. It has never let me down and has pinpointed the problems with great accuracy.
It feels a little sluggish at times but it is well worth the money.
The only thing I have not seen in my model is the capability to reset the steering wheel angle.
Everything else, it has worked like a charm.
I tried more expensive scanners, they were as sluggish (If not more), were more difficult to use, sometimes did not have all the features this one has, and costed a lot more.
I do recommend it, specially if you have an older model Bimmer.

Altho a crude tool it is hard to argue the functions it can provide for a small investment, It has most all bmw chassis designations in the software and is fairly simple to use. I was seeking to reset SRS lights due to a passenger restraint system error on a 2013 bmw X3 F25. It cleared the code easily once I programed to the right vehicle and turned off that annoying fault alarm. With OBD , ABS, SRS functions it is a very usefull tool for simple diagnosis

Used it once to reset my SRS airbag light on my 2006 BMW X3 (E83) after servicing door and forgetting to disconnect battery before I disconnected airbag. Took a little while to navigate through menu options, but once I got the hang of it, use was pretty simple. Even if it breaks tomorrow, which I doubt it will, it still saved me a bunch of money by not having to have the dealer reset the SRS code. I toyed around with it after I reset code I needed and there is a ton of data that it can pull, including real-time diagnostics. Hope it does not come in too handy in the future, but glad I purchased and should have done so a long time ago. Said it would come with software version 8.0, but had the most recent 10.7 installed.

Step 1

Copy C:/Program Files (x86)/Softing to Thumb Drive.

Step 2

Copy C:/Program Files (x86)/Offboard_Diagnostic_Information_System_Service/ OffboardDiagLauncher.exe to Thumb Drive.

Step 3

Copy C:/Program Files (x86)/Offboard_Diagnostic_Information_System_Service/ license/license.dat to Thumb Drive.

Step 4

Copy C:/Program Files (x86)/Offboard_Diagnostic_Information_System_Service/

plugins/de.volkswagen.odis.vaudis.launcher_4.50.0.jar to Thumb Drive.

THIS TOOK A VERY LONG TIME. When files are completely loaded a Warning Box “Offboard Diagnostic Information System Updater” opens stating “The operating system must be restarted to continue the update. Please restart the application.”. Choose “Restart now”. The computer will reboot.

After computer reboots, start ODIS.

In Administration change language if necessary.

Change Mirror Server in Administration – Connections to C:/PostSetup/ and save.

Step 22

Create C:/PostSetup/Odis/Trade Retail/Software/Update file.

In C:/PostSetup/Odis/Trade Retail/Software/Update/ add site.xml file with new site.xml version copied from new Postsetup Odis/Trade Retail/Software/Update/ file.

Step 24

In C:/Program Files (x86)/Offboard_Diagnostic_Information_System_Service/ License/License.dat check/change license expiration date and save.

Step 25

Rename Desktop Shortcut.

Step 26

Clean Registry and empty Recycle Bin.

Check connection. Configure VAS5054A connection through ODIS Service Diagnostic Interface Configuration (Softing EDIC Configuration Manager) if no connection available.

Step 28

Q: when downloading there softing folder, what can that folder do for me?

A: Thenn offcourse a china vas5054a will work with newer, actual odis version because newest Odis installs D-PDU_API V1.20.42 they not work with clones. so the Fw Folder to replace is D-PDU_API V1.20.41 and will work with china clones!
