Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Toyota Matrix 1

Heard rattling when car in gear. Our mechanic said it is the main bearing in the transmission and it would get louder and then seize up eventually. This car has been regularly and well maintained and has only 107 k on it. The clutch is still original and the trans needs replacing before it ? local dealer says there is nothing he do. We are going to put a new transmission in and drive it for another 40 k then dump it. Am completely disappointed in this car and in Toyota.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2006 Toyota Matrix 6

I have a 2006 Toyota Matrix xrs 6 speed manual transmission. I purchased the car new and have serviced the car with the dealership from day one. Today I brought it in for its 45000 mile service and told them to check the clutch because we noticed it sticking/slipping in 5th gear. Turns out I need to replace the clutch at a cost of $1200 even though I have their platinum service/extended warranty plan. I haven't even worn out the brakes and I have to replace the clutch!!!! I am a 46 year old mother and have driven several cars with a manual transmission and never had to replace a clutch with such low mileage. I read on edmunds car space about this and it said to come to your website to document this.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2006 Toyota Matrix 7

About 10:00 pm when I was just pulling on to I-84 in downtown hartford, CT the manual transmission of my Toyota Matrix made a very loud grinding sound and I could not move. Thankfully, my momentum enabled me to get over to the side of the highway but I was still sticking out into the right lane just around a curve in the road. A state police trouper pulled behind me almost immediately and put on his lights to warn cars away. Otherwise, I am certain my car would have been rear-ended while I waited for the tow truck. The repair shop I had the car towed to said that a bearing had failed and destroyed the transmission. I had to get a completely new transmission at a cost of over $2000. This car had over 105,000 miles on it, but they were mostly highway miles and the transmission should never have failed this early.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Toyota Matrix 8

After normal driving and wear and tear (103,000 miles), manual transmission on 2003 Toyota Matrix has gone bad, resulting in a needed replacement of the transmission, clutch, and clutch plate.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Toyota Matrix 9

Toyota Matrix 2004I have been noticing (what appeared to be) slippage in the clutch, especially at higher gears. This kept getting more problematic until 12-6-2009 the car would not go more than 20 mph and smelled hot. What appeared to be transmission oil was found on the driveway under the car. Note: upon looking at this issue via the www, I see this is a prevalent issue with Toyota Matrix but the car dealerships do not acknowledge this. ??.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Toyota Matrix 10

I have a 2004 Matrix (5 speed manual) with 85k and the throwout bearing has failed. I was driving home from a concert with a few youth kids on Saturday night. I was entering the 1-10e trying to merge in with traffic when the throwout bearing failed. I tried to shift into 3rd gear, but it was stuck in 2nd. I had to slam the gear into place to prevent getting run over by a SUV. This was my second near-death experience this year in my car due to the transmission. Earlier, when the car was at 74k, the front axle on the transmission broke. This broke in the middle of a busy intersection where I had to keep swaying my body forward until the car had enough momentum to roll across. After replacing the front axle, I really do not have the money to fix another transmission issue. Toyota needs to recall their transmissions on the 2004 Matrix, I don't know how many more times I can afford to cheat death.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Toyota Matrix 11

I own a 2003 Toyota Matrix with a manual transmission. The car only has 92,000 miles and the tranny needs to be replaced due to a bad bearing. From my research on the web I have seen this happen to many others. I spoke to a repair shop that does rebuilds and he informed me that Toyota had gotten bad bearings and used them on a series of transmissions and they tend to go bad around 80k to 120k miles. He himself has rebuilt many.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Toyota Matrix 16

Own a Toyota Matrix 2003 xr have been hearing odd sounds for about 6 months. Had mechanic do a check and couldn't find anything. Never stopped to think it could be the transmission on a manual transmission with less than 100k miles. A week later, driving on highway in the middle of the night, heard a loud explosion type sound and swerved off the road. Mechanic said its a bad bearing in the transmission. Toyota has yet to respond to my complaint. The entire transmission needs to be replaced.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix 17

The car is a 2005 Toyota Matrix,5 speed manual transmission, the car is serviced by a tech at scheduled service times. The transmission locked up and needed to be replaced, the mechanic said there were rebuilds available but stated the Toyota replacement was the way to go, I agree. Toyota says there are no transmission problems however if you look on line one will see a rash of 5 speed Toyota Matrix transmission problems with a bearing always being blamed, I cannot believe this many people beat there 5 speeds to death in a 4 doorstation wagon. Also noted was Toyota had 15 transmission waiting when mine was ordered-- perhapsthey know something about the transmission problem. No one will say if the new transmission has being improved over the old unit, because that would mean there was a problem to start with. Thanks to Toyota I have a car with a transmission that may have the same problem it started with at a cost of 3,400. 00 more.
